There is nothing illegal about what they are doing. This new desktop version may require you to purchase each year or else it stops working too. They will eventually relent the commission sale and give in to you and allow you to purchase the (450% higher priced) 2023 Desktop version for $550 per year (up from the $300 version we bought in 2020 that lasted 3 years, $100/year). You are the customer but you are not right. They will exclaim all of the benefits about their online version and no matter what you say, you are wrong, online is more secure, online is better in every which way etc. I can only assume they get in trouble or make a lot less commission on the desktop version vs the online. I believe you need to call up their support and beg/plead with them for an unknown amount of time (for me it was 45 min) explaining to them that you would like to purchase a 2023 Desktop Version. If anyone has any feedback on this, I'd love to hear it. BUT, for extremely small businesses that only need the download function to keep up with the volume of transactions, and can use an alternative program to run the nitty gritty part of the payroll, I think Quicken may possibly be an answer. I really don't like the way it functions and the lack of control it appears that you download everything, and then instead of carefully reviewing and correcting and then approving transactions for permanent entry, it all just automatically goes in at once, splat, and then your job is to find the errors and correct them after the fact. The same scenario just recently occurred - a business client of mine asked me to take over their personal books as well, and the spouse is using Quicken to maintain it all, and I sat down with them and took a look at it a couple weeks ago. I had clients that used it for personal bookkeeping and many of them also had QuickBooks already for their business bookkeeping, so I just had them switch the personal to QB as well, since I found Quicken pretty unusable after 2010 or 2011. I'm actually about to take another look at, heaven help me, Quicken. For example, phone support for AccountEdge is an additional charge, but I think based on a footnote, the first 30 days is free although the reference to that footnote is next to payroll pricing.Īgain, I'm keeping this product in my "consider" list for when I have to leave QBPro 2020. Note: I think they're changing their pricing so fast they can't keep the website updated correct. Also, the disparity of pricing info suggests to me that the AccountEdge Pro publisher is tweaking its pricing to see what the market will bear for outright purchase and to come in well under Intuit's subscription pricing. That brings their credibility down a bit for me. ![]() None of these reviews are by accountants or users of Quickbooks. While the accountedge site says for one license (appears to mean one computer, not one company) either $15/mo or one-time $699 with upgrades $199. One review says $400 first year then $240 per year after. The first three reviews of the 2023 version I found (pcmag, capterra, and ) report different pricing from the site itself. Alternatives, I'll investigate as they come up. As I've stated here, I don't need payroll, so I'm sticking with QBPro 2020 for as long as it keeps running. If there is anyone who has used this program or knows of this program, please reply to this message and let me know what you think. Also, for a fee, they can transfer your Quickbooks data over, as well. You can even pay a one-time fee for the program. This is a desktop version, and the pricing is very reasonable. The program is called AccountEdge Pro and I am interested to see what other people think of it. The user interface seems a little outdated, but the pricing is much more affordable. So, I did a little research and I found a software program that, to me, seemed to offer a lot of the same features as Quickbooks Pro Desktop. ![]() I don't like the fact that I cannot download my accounting file onto my desktop. I don't like the idea that if I stop the online subscription, that I do not have access to my file. I, too, have been using Quickbooks Desktop Pro for over 20 years and I am not happy with the online version and not having the ability to use the software when I am not on the internet. ![]()
